It's Official! Angela Bassett Joins The Star-Studded Marvel's 'Black Panther' Cast

It has officially been announced by Marvel Studios that Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett who’s best known for movies like How Stella got Her Groove BackWhat’s Love Got To Do With It and her recent roles on American Horror Story has signed on to be apart of the cast of the new Marvel movie Black Panther

Angela will play Queen Romanda, who’s the mother of T’Challa aka Black Panther, and the second wife to King Wakanda, T’Chaka, who was killed in Marvel's  Captain America: Civil War. Black Panther is the protector and ruler of Wakanda, an imaginary African nation that’s known for its highly developed technology and its deposits of the miracle metal that’s known as vibarnium.

Marvel’s character the Black Panther is the said to be the first black superhero in mainstream comics. The new character was introduced to world in 1966, and after Black Panther came on the scene comics took on a whole new look. This is the first ever for a black (Marvel) superhero to have his own —we all remember Meteor Man— and its about time. Kids will finally be able to see a black super hero take center stage, and identify with all the action heroes in the movie.

The plot of the movie seems to be on the hush for now, but according to games radar, Lupita Nyong’o who will also star in the movie had this to say when asked about it in an interview on the red carpet. “The story is that the Black Panther’s leadership is really threatened by two foes who come together, and so Black Panther gets the help of the C.I.A., and the Dora Milaje to try and defeat the enemy. Lupita will play Nakia, a member of Wakanada’s exclusive special forces united which is the Dora Milaje.

Ryan Coogler who's directed Fruitville Station, and Creed has put together a great cast. Chadwick Boseman who played the titular warrior-king in Captain America: Civil War will reprise his role in the flick. Also starring alongside Angela is the handsome Michael B. Jordan. Danai Gurira, and Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker rounds out the rest of this star studded crew.

Filming isn't set to start until 2017 so there's no trailer, but here's an interview with some of the cast at the San Diego Comic-Con this past summer to check out.


Black Panther is set to hit the big screen in early 2018.
