2017 has been pretty eventful year so far for New Hampshire man Lamar Austin. He welcomed a beautiful child with his wife and got fired from his job as a security guard...all in the same day.
Austin's wife, Lindsay, went into labor in December 31st. As any faithful father would, Austin decided to attend his son's birth despite the fact he had a shift that night.
“I thought, ‘I’m just going to do what I feel is right for my family,’ and that’s it,” he told the Huffington Post.
Most employers would be completely understanding regarding the situation, however, Austin's current employer, Salerno Protective Services, had no empathy.
He received a text on 1 A.M. on January 1st, informing him he was terminated due to his absences, despite the fact he had shown up to all his previous shifts.
“I looked at it and I was like, ‘Wow. Okay, cool,’ and that was about it for me,” he said. He had no choice but to take his mind off the issue, considering his son, Caiman, would be born hours later.
When the Concord Monitor wrote about how Austin sacrificed his job for prioritizing his family, he's received a tremendous amount of kind words, financial support, and you guessed it: job offers.
He has his eye on an apprenticeship at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Concord. We're so happy for the Austin family! Some things really do come as a blessing in disguise.
