Where the hell did this come from?
Gospel singer Kim Burrell is taking serious heat after an anti-LGBTQ Facebook Live video where she claimed all gay people were ‘perverted’.
Burrell was about to enter a sermon when she decided to blow off some steam and spout hateful rhetoric she clearly feels strongly about. So much so that she implies all gay people have 365 days to live.
“Anybody in this room who’s dealing with the homosexual spirit, beg God for freedom. And play with it in 2017 and you’ll die from it.”
And that was just her warm up. She goes on to rant about oral sex and motorboating (it’s not as much fun as I just made it sound):
“I came to tell you about sin, that sin nature. That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women.
“You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted. You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.”
The video's since been pulled, but here's some of her similar past comments:
Backlash was predictably swift, and Burrell tried to half-heartedly defend herself on Facebook, saying, “…I care about God’s creation and every person from the LGBT and anything else, any other kind of thing that is supporting gay. I never said LGBT last night. I said S-I-N and whatever falls in the sin was preached.”
Not many are buying that excuse, including Pharrell Williams, who’s recorded with Burrell and is slated to appear with her on Ellen in just a few days. Pharrell tweeted, “I condemn hate speech of any kind. There is no room in this world for any kind of prejudice. My greatest hope is for inclusion and love for all humanity in 2017 and beyond.”
Janelle Monae also mirrored Skateboard P's sentiments, with her own Instagram message:
In case you missed it, this timing couldn’t be worse, considering Ellen Degeneres is a figurehead of LGBTQ rights in the US. That should make for a very *interesting* show.
