Politics and fashion collided in New York, and the result was unnecessarily mean-spirited – at least according to Whoopi Goldberg.
The View co-host is standing up for Tiffany Trump after a number of editors refused to sit next to the President’s daughter during a Fashion Week show, going so far as inviting Tiffany to sit with her at the next event.
Now, before you start calling Whoopi a Trump lover, know that she’s been extremely against the President since the beginning. She just feels what happened to his daughter was nonsense.
“…nobody’s talking politics," said Whoopi. “You’re looking at fashion! She doesn’t want to talk about her dad! She’s looking at the fashion!"
That sentiment was echoed by Phillip Plein, the designer whose work was on display when the scene unfolded. “Tiffany Trump is not a politician, she’s a teenager.”
That distinction was apparently lost on a few magazine editors. A Wall Street Journal writer tweeted two photos of empty seats all around Tiffany:
A fashion editor at Elle, one at Fashionista.com, and presumably others all left their seats near 23-year old Trump, leaving the President’s daughter sitting like the unpopular kid during middle school lunch.
So, when this seating boycott came up on an episode of The View, Whoopi made Tiffany an offer. “You know what, Tiffany, I’m supposed to go to a couple more shows. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m coming to sit with you.”
Tiffany soon accepted the invite on Twitter:
What do you think of magazine editors ditching their seats near a Trump? And what do you make of Whoopi’s gesture?
