Panic buy has begun but it should not have happened.
Mexico has, so far, reported only 164 cases of Covid-19 as compared to the United States where the number of new cases has skyrocketed and crossed the number 10,000. In fact, there has been only 1 death in Mexico against 217 in America, at the time of writing. In the last 24 hours, the United States registered more than 550 new cases.
As the cases start growing, many people have started panic-buying and supermarkets across the country are reporting a huge upsurge in shoppers trying to stockpile the essential commodities in anticipation of a lockdown. But this is not all, as markets run out of their own stocks, people are heading across the border into Mexico where the commodities are still available on shelves.
People have started driving down from California into Tijuana and the supermarkets there and they reported long queues outside the stores trying to cater to the new arrivals. According to reports, there may be talks of border shutdowns in the coming times if the situation does not come into control.
Europe has already taken serious steps and they are on the verge of a complete shutdown of borders to avoid importing coronavirus cases. On the positive side, however, the epicenter of the virus, Wuhan, China, has reported no new case for the first time and they are sending out medical teams to affected countries to support them. But the dangers are still far from over and it is best to follow all necessary precautions until the situation becomes normal again.
