32-year-old William Lafave, the white man involved in the altercation, admitted to WXYZ that he did fight the 20-year-old victim. The fight escalated after the group claimed the black man allegedly had a knife, which in turn egged Lafave's son on to release the dog, prompting it to attack the victim.

Lafave confirmed this with the station, stating: "That's why the dog was let go and the dog did his job to make sure he protected me from getting stabbed by the individual." However, the victim, who has not been named, told WXYZ that he was not carrying a weapon of any sort during the incident.

Cellphone videos of the incident show a group of white people with a dog menacingly approaching the black man who seemed to be walking down the sidewalk. The first punch was thrown by Lafave himself, and the black man can be seen reacting in defense. This prompted Lafave's stepson to release the dog, who viciously attacked the black man, forcing the victim to the ground.

Once the victim was helpless on the ground, the group of white men converges around him and carries on attacking him. At one point in the video, a minor can be seen attacking the black man with a bat. Another person also attacks him with a trashcan. Roseville police are currently investigating the incident. There are no further reports of the incident.
