Nipsey Hussle Awarded As The Best Hip-Hop Artist At 2019 BET Awards

The late rapper's family went up on stage to accept BET's Humanitarian Award, which was bestowed upon the late Nipsey for his humanitarian efforts.

The 2019 BET Awards recognized Nipsey Hussle as the 'Best Male Hip Hop Artist'. The late rapper and humanitarian was honored with the award posthumously at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

In addition to being rewarded with 'Best Male Hip Hop Artist', Nipsey was also given the BET's Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic efforts towards the Black community, as well as for his idea and drive to make the Black music industry and community a self-sufficient one.

Rapper and fellow artist T.I., who was a friend of the late Nipsey, spoke of the legacy he left behind, before presenting the reward for his humanitarian work to his family. "There will never be another Nipsey Hussle. He was a revolutionary...He inspired people across the world; many are still discovering how legendary he really was," he said before calling the late rapper's family on stage.

Nipsey's longtime girlfriend Lauren London, his children, parents, grandmother, and sister took center stage and accepted the award on behalf of Nipsey. It was the second posthumous win for Nipsey.

Several artists also paid a tribute to Nipsey following the posthumous award. YG, John Legend, and DJ Khaled all collaborated with Nipsey when he was alive. The artists performed a medley of the late rapper's songs.

For the 'Best Male Hip Hop Artist' award, Nipsey was up against 21 Savage, J. Cole, Meek Mill, Travis Scott, and Drake. The late rapper's posthumous win comes a year after he released 'Victory Lap', a stunning collaboration and debut album which carried a strong message reflective of Nipsey's life and his success.

May he rest in power.
