It was a bizarre move by the bank to club Hariet Tubman with Black Panther.
When it comes to marketing stunts companies do like to do things that make you take notice of their products and quite often they do things that you hadn't even imagined possible. It also happens that a lot of these initiatives by these companies divide people's opinions and get them to talk about the product even more. One such instance that is currently causing quite a roar on social media is the debit card launched by One United Bank featuring Harriet Tubman doing the Wakanda Forever salute.
Considering the Black History Month, it was obvious that companies would try to woo customers in the Black community through the symbolic use of Black Culture icons but United's mixing of Harriet Tubman with Black Panther may have failed to hit the target. Clearly, people had to share their opinions on what they thought about this idea.
Omg this is legitimately hilarious I had to screenshot it before it’s deleted.— Robert Xavier (@RXFrench) February 13, 2020
A debit card with Harriet Tubman throwing up the Wakanda salute 😭😭😭😭😭
I thought for sure this was just a brand doing “brand things,” but even a “Black-owned” bank has to know this is bad, right? pic.twitter.com/mQqhq9IJ5G
