Despite getting diagnosed in 2018, Staton kept the terrifying news under wraps because she was heading for her first U.S. tour in over 20 years.
Legendary soul and gospel singer Candi Staton has made a miraculous recovery from the clutches of cancer. The 79-year-old recently revealed in her recovery following a 10-week course of intensive chemotherapy as well as 30 rounds of radiation. Staton was excited to share with Eldredge that after a recent surgery, she was now on the right road to recovery from breast cancer.
Staton was treated for stage four breast cancer at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan. Her journey to recovery was not easy at all, but Staton has just one thing to be grateful for; her unwavering faith. "It was a rough road, I can't lie," Staton said in the interview. "I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I've been through hell and back but God was there all the time."
Despite getting diagnosed in 2018, Staton kept the terrifying news under wraps because she was heading for her first U.S. tour in over 20 years. "I went onstage each night knowing I had something abnormal growing inside my body that might take my life," the cancer survivor recalled. "But I went out there and I performed like it was my last time on stage like I might never sing again." The soul and gospel singer revealed her diagnoses in an interview with Rolling Stone later that year.
Staton credits her incredible medical team for helping her wage the war against her cancer. But more than anything else, Staton was ever-grateful to her fans who sent her love and prayers from all around the world. She updated her fans regularly with how her treatments were going on her Instagram. The outpouring of love, Staton revealed, gave her a renewed strength to fight the disease. She said: "All those people gave me the strength I needed to get through all this. I love them so much"
Staton is now working on an album that is reflective of her struggle with breast cancer. The soul singer has created a collection of uplifting songs that hopefully motivate other cancer sufferers to survive their ordeal. "I want others with cancer to listen to the words of my song 'Confidence.' [Singing] 'I walk like it, I talk like it, I act like it, I move like it, I fight like it, I’ve got Confidence.' Make it your theme. Can't nobody stop you but you," assured the entertainer.
Stay blessed, Mrs. Staton!
