A Twitter user alleging to be related to Tillman posted a status which accused the officers of chasing an innocent man and senselessly gunning him down.
Terry Tillman's name joins the list of Black men who have been senselessly killed by the police over the past few years. As per reports, Tillman was spotted with a gun inside a mall, which prompted a foot chase that would have a fatal ending. The 23-year-old was shot three to five times in his torso area.
Multiple sites have reported that the officers were prompted to chase after Tillman after spotting what was an extended magazine in his waistband. The weapon was also spotted by another mallgoer, who notified two police officers, one from Richmond heights who was on duty, while the other was working a security job at the mall. When they approached Tillman at the mall, the officers said that he took off, prompting the foot chase and unnecessary shooting.
The media isn’t going to tell the truth about my nephew SO I WILL. My nephew was an intelligent, artistic, loving, and energetic guy. He was a father-to-be w/ his girlfriend and was so happy about it! Here’s some appropriate pictures of him with his loved ones❤️ #TerryTillman pic.twitter.com/atK8TW9qv3— WhateverMikeIs (@WhateverMikeIs) September 1, 2019
Atlanta Black Star reports that Tillman's family is calling the whole thing foul play, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter. A Twitter user alleging to be related to Tillman posted a status which accused the officers of chasing an innocent man and senselessly gunning him down.
Somebody pls point me to the info that justifies #TerryTillman being shot and killed? Because last I checked, we enthusiastically approve of people carrying guns in Missouri.— Aaron (@AaronWBanks) September 1, 2019
Standby for the “feared for his life” presser...
St. Louis County Police Sgt. Benjamin Granda said that the mall prohibits weapons which is what prompted the officers to approach Tillman. During a press conference, Granda said: "Those officers contacted (Tillman) as I understand it just to provide him context that that property does not allow weapons on it."
It’s already a divided place. I didn’t make it that way. You don’t shoot a man who is simply running away. They capture mass shooters alive. This man did nothing but avoid an encounter with an officer, who may have been in plainclothes. #TerryTillman— Anne-Marie O'Connor (@theladyingold) September 1, 2019
Granda also said that the officers alleged that Tillman pointed his weapon at them before the shooting. However, the authorities have not yet released any footage of the incident to confirm the happenings of the day. "We are going to continue our investigative efforts to ensure that that is factual," Granda said.
Tillman succumbed to the gunshots and died on the spot.
He was black. Haven't you heard? Black people can't have guns - legal or illegal. Not even Black cops. Guns are only for white people, white cops and white mass murderers with mental problems. Everyone else.......DEAD! Black people even die playing with toy guns. #TerryTillman https://t.co/if6pH71YLp— Huey Hampton (@HueyHampton100) September 2, 2019
